An official says Hollywood studios have agreed to screen several summer time blockbusters such as the final “Harry Potter” film in Indonesian theaters. The decision could signal a softening of significant studios’ boycott of the nation.
Head of the Indonesian Cinema Businesses Union Djonny Sjafruddin says “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows _ Portion 2″ will hit big screens across Indonesia prior to Aug. 1.
He mentioned Monday that “Transformers 3″ and “Kung Fu Panda 2″ would also be released for the duration of the subsequent numerous weeks.

‘Harry Potter’ faces steep drop after record start

Harry Potter finished his Hogwarts school days with box-office highs around the world. The question is whether the young wizard can continue to work his charms on audiences now that so many fans already have seen his big-screen finale.
When a film opens to colossal numbers such as the record $ 169.2 million weekend domestically for “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2,” it usually has nowhere to go but down _ and sharply _ in its second weekend.
“Conventional wisdom is the bigger they open, the harder they fall,” said Paul Dergarabedian, an analyst for box-office tracker Hollywood.com. “There’s no way they can sustain it.”
Still, distributor Warner Bros. predicts the finale will easily top $ 1 billion worldwide, joining only a handful of films that have reached that level.
The film is almost halfway there already. Adding in its record international income of $ 312.3 million, “Deathly Hallows: Part 2″ was closing in on $ 500 million after just days in release.
Domestic revenues for the last three of the seven earlier “Harry Potter” films fell about 60 percent in their second weekends, a steep drop but typical of many blockbusters that count on opening weekend for a huge portion of their total income.
Because of its record launch, the finale could drop even further, down as much as 65 to 70 percent next weekend, said Dan Fellman, head of domestic distribution at Warner Bros. After that, Fellman expects it to settle in for a long run, drawing repeat business from fans and even luring those who have not come out for earlier “Harry Potter” flicks.
“One thing I can tell you about the `Potter’ movies is that the pictures are very front-loaded,” Fellman said. “But this is different because, one, it’s so well-reviewed, and two, it’s the last one in the series. And you can see this movie if you haven’t seen the others and still appreciate it.”
Opening weekends for the past “Harry Potter” films varied widely, from $ 77.1 million for 2007′s “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix” to $ 125 million for “Deathly Hallows: Part 1″ last fall. Yet the films have played out consistently in the long haul, their total domestic earnings ranging from about $ 250 million to $ 317 million.
“Deathly Hallows: Part 2″ is virtually certain to shoot past those levels and become the franchise’s top earner, no matter how big a drop it takes next weekend, when it faces fresh competition from Paramount Pictures’ superhero tale “Captain America: The First Avenger.”
Of the $ 295 million total for “Deathly Hallows: Part 1,” 42.4 percent came from opening weekend, according to Hollywood.com. If “Deathly Hallows: Part 2″ matched that, it would finish at about $ 400 million, potentially becoming the first in the series to pass that rare benchmark.
Only 11 films have ever reached that level domestically, including “Avatar” at $ 760.5 million, “Titanic” at $ 600.8 million and “The Dark Knight” at $ 533.3 million.
“The Dark Knight” was the previous record-holder for opening weekends with a $ 158.4 million debut, though factoring in today’s higher admission prices, it sold more tickets than “Deathly Hallows: Part 2.”
Wildly acclaimed by critics, “The Dark Knight” held up better in subsequent weekends than most of Hollywood’s biggest debuts. The film’s domestic revenue slipped only 53 percent in its second weekend, while opening weekend accounted for just 29.7 percent of its total.
Like the recent “Harry Potter” films, Hollywood’s other top debuts took sharp drops in their second weekends. Revenues for 2007′s “Spider-Man 3″ fell 62 percent in the second weekend, with the opening weekend accounting for 44.9 percent of total domestic income of $ 336.5 million. Earnings for 2009′s “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” dropped a whopping 70 percent in the second weekend, with the first weekend’s business amounting to nearly half of its $ 296.6 million total.
All-time box-office champ “Avatar” went the opposite route. It started with a big but unremarkable $ 77 million domestic debut weekend in December 2009. Its revenue the second weekend dropped a tiny 2 percent, while the opening weekend accounted for barely 10 percent of its eventual domestic total.

Topping both the North American and international box office charts for the second straight weekend, “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” is advancing toward $ 700 million at the worldwide box office.
Michael Bay’s demolition derby in 3-D added another $ 93 million from a whopping 9,926 locations in 59 international markets, crossing the $ 645 million mark after just two weekends of release. IMAX drew $ 3.7 million for the weekend, which puts the giant screen total at $ 15.6 million after just 12 days in 105 international locations.
“Cars 2″ raced to second place overseas in its third weekend of release with $ 26.9 million in 27 territories and a global total of $ 270.4 million. This included a No. 1 debut in Argentina and a weekend that propelled “Cars 2″ to the milestone of becoming the biggest Pixar release ever in Russia with $ 18.4 million to date.
Third place goes to “Kung Fu Panda,” which has played to an admiring international audience for nearly two months. It earned $ 14.3 million for the weekend in 57 international territories, boosting the film’s overseas revenues to over the $ 400 million mark and its global total to an impressive $ 563 million.
Here are the top 10 movies at international theaters this past weekend, followed by distributor, international gross for the weekend (excluding North America), worldwide gross to date (including North America), and number of weeks in domestic release, as compiled Monday by Rentrak and provided by Hollywood.com:

The globe of “Harry Potter” has constantly centered on the boy wizard and his pals as they navigate danger, outsmart villains and hurtle toward their inevitable destiny. But the eight-film series has also featured a who’s-who of outstanding British actors playing the adults in this magical planet.
Because it all ends this week with the release of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part two,” here’s a look at 5 favorite grown-ups from the franchise:
_ Alan Rickman as Severus Snape: Probably the most fascinating figure in the Potter globe because of his shifting alliances and an emotional depth that is unexpected given his icy demeanor. Rickman is captivating in the function, with his droll, deadpan delivery that oozes condescending menace. A half-blood wizard, Snape has been a minion of the evil Lord Voldemort as well as an ally of Hogwarts headmaster Albus Dumbledore. He’s served as the intimidating Defense Against the Dark Arts professor and at some point headmaster himself but he’s also been a protector of Harry. Snape bullies his students but he also reveals his bravery, and in this last film, a flashback that explains his historical past with the young wizard offers one particular of its most poignant scenes.
_ Ralph Fiennes as Voldemort: Fiennes is just chilling as the dark lord, the lifelong nemesis Harry is destined to fight, and that’s only partly simply because of his freakish, noseless appearance. His soft, hissing delivery is far more disarming in a way than if he’d issued his threats and orders with a bellowing boom. The artist formerly known as Tom Riddle was the moment the most brilliant student Hogwarts had ever witnessed. But he utilized these strengths to transform himself into the most potent dark wizard ever, and boy, does he have it in for Harry Potter. He seriously wants to locate a hobby.
_ Michael Gambon as Dumbledore: Gambon took more than the role right after the death of Richard Harris, who played the headmaster at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the 1st two films in the franchise, “Sorcerer’s Stone” and “Chamber of Secrets.” And he took a distinct strategy to the aspect: While he remained a bastion of all that is good and genuine in the world, a steady and authoritative voice of purpose, Gambon played him with a bit a lot more fire and assortment than Harris. Probably that is also because much more of the character is revealed to us above time. With his long, silver hair and beard, Dumbledore is revered, but he’s also got some secrets.
_ Helena Bonham Carter as Bellatrix Lestrange: A wonderful possibility for this versatile actress to display off her wild side. With her dark, untamed locks and serious, black wardrobe, Bellatrix is fiercely loyal to Voldemort as a member of his army of Death Eaters. Bonham Carter plays the function with wicked glee, reveling in the above-the-leading nature of being an evil flunky, even even though the character herself comes from an elite wizarding family. In a single hilarious sequence in “Deathly Hallows: Aspect 2,” Bonham Carter plays Emma Watson playing Harry’s pal Hermione pretending to be … Bellatrix Lestrange, allowing her to show off another side of her physical talents.
_ Imelda Staunton as Dolores Umbridge: Do you discover a theme right here? With the exception of Dumbledore, most of my alternatives are evil _ or at least partly evil _ characters. Everyone hates Dolores Umbridge. But Staunton is so deliciously cruel in the role, she’s strangely irresistible and unattainable to forget, even though she only seems in two of the eight movies: “Order of the Phoenix” and “Deathly Hallows: Part 1.” The Ministry of Magic assigns Dolores to the Hogwarts staff to keep an eye on Dumbledore and impart her bland, useless, “Ministry-approved” curriculum. Passive-aggressive oppression is her game she’s toadlike but completely coifed in her prim, pink dresses, and she hands out torturous assignments with a smile. It is pure magic.

With blankets, umbrellas and good cheer, thousands of Harry Potter fans are camping out in central London ahead of Thursday’s premiere of the final film in the series.
Braving rain that made it almost impossible to sleep, the fans took shelter under large umbrellas to mark their spot in Trafalgar Square, where the stars of the movie will make a red-carpet appearance for “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2.”
Groups of girls screamed with excitement as they painted each others’ faces in the red-and-yellow colours of Gryffindor, one of the four houses of the wizarding Hogwarts school in the Harry Potter books. Harry’s house, of course.
“It’s amazing,” said Lydia Jenkins, 16, a schoolgirl from London. “There’s so much anticipation.”
Sporting clothing like that worn by imaginary wizards from the Hogwarts house Hufflepuff, 47-year-old Paul Taylor said he was hoping to get autographs from the film’s stars.
“I’ve been to quite a few of the premieres before, but I’ve never managed to get any autographs, so hopefully today I’ll do that,” he said.
Some fans travelled thousands of miles for the event. A group of Mexican fans held aloft their national flag and a banner praising J.K. Rowling _ the author who brought the bespectacled Harry and his world of wizards to life in her books.
Sydney Bogatz was among a group of Americans from Las Vegas who were camped patiently on the pavement outside the square.
“It’s really exciting. It’s my first premiere,” the 18-year-old said. “I’m a longtime Harry Potter fan and I’m really excited to see Rupert Grint walk on the red carpet.”
Grint plays Ron Weasley, Harry’s pal.

Irfan Khan Iliyazi was born in a poor family in Bombay, India, the son of a railway coolie, who started his career as a pick-pocket. At the age of 17 when he was threatened by his opponent, he retaliated by killing him and scattering his body parts on nearby railway tracks. Thereafter Irfan went on become an underworld don as well starting dealing in drugs and narcotics, and acquiring multiple identities and passports from Mumbai, Indore, and Sultanate of Oman. On August 10 the Mumbai Police had him cornered at the airport while attempting to flee to Dubai, but in vain as Irfan escapes and re-locates to Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh. Once there, he plans his escape by disguising himself and arranging the hijacking of an Indian Airlines plane to Kathmandu, Nepal, and thence making his way to Dubai. The Indian Police announces that they will reward anyone who apprehends Irfan dead or alive. Everything goes according to plan – until Irfan gets on the plane. This is where he will end up getting abducted by four naive and inexperienced youth – who want to better their individual lives – by holding him hostage and claim the reward anonymously.
